Monday, Feb 14, 2022

Last night’s Super Bowl LVI was lit! The Los Angeles Rams may have won the game against the Cincinnati Bengals, 23-20, making it the first win for the city of LA, but people will be talking about way more than just the game at the water cooler today!

Mickey Guyton & Jhené Aiko Name Mixup

Let’s spill the tea on what happened before kickoff. Country star Mickey Guyton and R&B crooner Jhené Aiko sang “The National Anthem” and “America the Beautiful,” respectively, but while introducing Mickey, NBC accidentally misidentified her as Jhené..oops!

Super Bowl LVI Halftime Show

The highly-anticipated halftime show kicked off with none other than The Doggfather Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre who welcomed “everybody to the wild wild west” with a performance of the west coast classic, “California Love.”

Just as everyone was getting their c-walk on, 50 Cent, who was originally discovered by Eminem and signed to Shady Records, made a surprise “upside-down” appearance with a performance of his iconic birthday anthem, “In Da Club.”

The smokin’ show continued with a sizzlin’ set by Queen of Hip-Hop Soul, Mary J Blige, who performed smash hits like “Family Affair” and “No More Drama.Kendrick Lamar, who took the stage after Mary J. Blige, let everybody know that we gon’ be “Alright, and Eminem rocked the crowd with his iconic Oscar-winning song “Lose Yourself” from 2002’s 8-Mile film.

Eminem Defiantly Takes a Knee

According to multiple reports, Eminem was told not to kneel during the halftime performance by the NFL, which they have since denied, but in true Slim Shady fashion, the Detroit-bred lyricist took a knee anyway while Dr. Dre played Tupac’s “I Ain’t Mad at Cha” on the piano. Em’s act of defiance was interpreted by most as a nod to banished quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who famously kneeled as an act of protest against police brutality and racial discrimination.

Super Bowl Commercials

No Super Bowl recap is complete without the commercials! Some fan favorites this year were from Verizon, which featured Jim Carrey in his iconic role as The Cable Guy, T-Mobile featuring Miley Cyrus and Dolly Parton as her Godmother, and Coinbase, which threw everyone in a frenzy over their “$15 in free Bitcoin” QR code.

Last but not least, the trailer for Jordan Peele’s terrifying science-fiction horror film Nope featuring Daniel Kaluuya, Keke Palmer, and Steven Yeun, had everybody sitting on the edge of their seats saying “NOPE” when they watched it!

What was your favorite moment from Super Bowl LVI? Tune in to see our Dish Nation hosts share their fave moments!
