Michelle Williams had to go full “Merleen” on some Destiny’s Child haters!
On the 17th anniversary of their two-time Grammy-nominated hit song “Cater 2 U,“ some people are calling for the classic to be canceled! The song, which is about a devoted woman submitting to and pampering her man, has ruffled the feathers of some who think the song is problematic—some referring to it as a “slave song.” But one-third of the hit girl group, Michelle Williams, isn’t here for the backlash!
In the voice of her cartoon alter ego Merleen, Michelle delivered a playful read to those who want “Cater 2 U” canceled.
“Oh honey, you didn’t design who you were catering to and you gave your lil pearls to swine. Don’t be mad at Destiny’s Child.”
Oop!
Some fans agreed with Michelle, emphasizing that the problem isn’t with the song’s lyrics, but more so with a woman’s ability to discern who’s deserving of being catered to.
Ladies, we are not canceling “Cater 2 U” , we’re canceling catering to the wrong one 😉
