ONE OFFICER INDICTED IN BREONNA TAYLOR’S CASE—OTHER TWO ‘JUSTIFIED IN THEIR USE OF FORCE’ SAYS AG DANIEL CAMERON
Wednesday, Sep 23, 2020

Six months after Breonna Taylor was killed in her apartment during a botched narcotics raid, a Kentucky grand jury has indicted one of the three Louisville Metro Police Department officers involved in her fatal shooting. Brett Hankison, who was terminated in June, has been charged with three counts of wanton endangerment for shooting into neighboring apartments with a bond set at $15,000.

Jonathan Mattingly and Myles Cosgrove, the other two officers involved in Breonna’s case, were not charged and do not currently face state charges. During a press briefing following the announcement of the indictment, Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron said Mattingly and Cosgrove were “were justified in their use of force” since Breonna Taylor’s boyfriend, Kenneth Walker, fired first—despite FBI ballistics analysis revealing Cosgrove as the officer who fired the fatal shot that killed Breonna.

With the expectation of more protests and social unrest following today’s announcement, Louisville was placed under a state of emergency.

We’re continuing to send love and light to the family and friends of Breonna Taylor, and hope justice can be served.
