Lupita Nyong’o and Janelle Monae used to date? The Wakanda Forever actress is setting the record straight.

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone for a profile on Janelle, Lupita addressed their dating rumors head-on. She said the two met at the Met Gala in 2014 and kept in touch, but she’s not surprised people think they had a past romance. Lupita said Janelle, “has a magnetism that they were obviously picking up on,” adding “she is that enigmatic. I was not surprised. And I don’t mind being associated with her in any capacity.”

Janelle came out as pansexual in 2018 and non-binary in April 2022, and has been romantically linked to actress Tessa Thompson. However, Lupita is currently dating tv host Selema Masekela with whom she went “IG official” in December.
