KEKE PALMER, LADY GAGA, DOJA CAT & THE WEEKND HAD SOME OF THE BEST MOMENTS OF THE 2020 VMAS
Monday, Aug 31, 2020

Last night’s MTV VMAs, hosted by Keke Palmer, were in full swing despite being in the midst of a pandemic. The show must go on, and that it did with pandemic-chic fashions, futuristic-style performances and passionate speeches about social injustices. Here are some of the best moments of the night from Keke Palmer, Lady Gaga, Doja Cat and The Weeknd.

As the awards show was predominately pre-taped, Keke Palmer had the daunting task of keeping viewers intrigued by hosting with high energy and telling jokes to an empty room. Despite simulated noises of a fake crowd, Keke was able to deliver effortlessly.

In true Lady Gaga fashion, the “Rain On Me” popstar not only put on an epic performance that featured fellow songstress Ariana Grande, but she also took home the coveted inaugural Tricon Award along with four other awards and took coronavirus couture to new levels with nine wardrobe changes—each equipped with an avant-garde style mask.

Although Lady Gaga’s performance received rave reviews, many donned newcomer Doja Cat’s VMAs debut of “Say So” and “Like That” as the best of the night. In addition to receiving her first moon man for PUSH New Artist, her ’80s nostalgic “Something Quirkier” set seemingly paid homage to Kurt Loder-hosted MTV News.

The Weeknd took his “Blinding Lights” VMAs performance to new heights, singing his ballads from on the deck of Hudson Yards with a fireworks finale to close. But in addition to snagging two awards including Video of the Year and Best R&B Video, he sent a heartfelt message during his acceptance speech about the recent social injustices against Jacob Blake and Breonna Taylor.
