In the August edition of InStyle magazine, Janelle Monáe is getting very personal about her music, all things ‘black girl magic’ and her journey to pansexuality. After coming out to Rolling Stone last April, she reveals that although some of her traditional Baptist family haven’t fully accepted her lifestyle, her mom has become her biggest defender and “will slap a fool” over her daughter!
‘Mama, the only way that I can create art is to truthfully tell my story. It has to come from an honest place, and this is who I honestly am. I don’t know any other way. I have to talk about my sexuality. I have to talk about my blackness. I have to talk about my womanness. I have to talk about these things. This is who I am as a person,’ Janelle dished to InStyle.
Janelle, who’s been romantically linked to the Avengers: Endgame actress Tessa Thompson, revealed that she’s dated both men and women.
